Under the direction of the Chief Strategic Communications Officer, the Director of Marketing/Communications has primary responsibility for developing, directing, executing, and measuring a marketing and communication strategy for both new and existing services to improve the health and wellbeing of those we serve, and to oversee the development of a robust internal communications program. Is responsible for a broad range of marketing and communication activities relative to the strategic direction and positioning of the organization and its leadership that promote, enhance and protect brand reputation and enable the organization to become the partner of choice as we transform healthcare for our communities. The Directoris responsible for leading, controlling, planning, organizing and evaluating the timely, effective and efficient delivery of the department’s operations on a 24-hour basis. Through the incorporation of the Hospital’s goals and objectives, this position is responsible for ensuring that the department performs to the highest possible standard within the resources made available. The Director acts as a role model, has accountability for the departmental budget and Position Control, ensures the consistent application of the Hospital’s policies and procedures and fosters teamwork within and between areas of responsibility. The Director is also responsible for promoting specialized knowledge and skills through the support of staff education and professional development.
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES
Leads initiatives that translate business goals into successful marketing strategies.
Plans and executes comprehensive marketing campaigns, has the ability to generate creative marketing concepts and evaluate creative work.
Reports metrics and outcomes of marketing efforts through executive dashboards.
Utilizes data to assess market, knowledgeable about CRM, innovations in digital marketing and social media.
Ability to measure and show tangible results of marketing initiatives.
Establish an internal communications strategy to ensure initiatives and key messages are successfully communicated to employees and stakeholders.
An exceptional strategist who collaborates and communicates with operational leaders, physician leaders, business development, analytics, finance, clinical support and many other disciplines as well as a variety of outside business support and community leaders.
Provides leadership and direction regarding promotional communication to key stakeholders to build trust and promote awareness and understanding of Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System’s mission, vision, values, strategies and accomplishments.
Sets the standard for departmental behavior, and provides and promotes a positive working environment for departmental staff to create the environment for strong employee morale, motivation and productivity.
Holds accountability for the departmental budget and Position Control and takes necessary action to remain within balance and address variances.
Maintains and reviews all aspects of corporate compliance as it relates to the department.
Anticipates issues affecting the department’s function and activity that may affect service delivery to patients, staff and visitors and ensures actions are taken to address issues in close cooperation with Administration and peers.
Oversees interdepartmental communication support and the production of items such as patient education materials, brochures, signage, etc.
Oversees the content creation, and execution of public-facing SVMHS websites.
Work closely with other departments to develop creative and integrated awareness of community programs highlighting SVMHS healthcare services, technology, affiliated programs, physician partners and other personnel to support growth and enhance community perception of quality care.
Collaborates, develops, and executes multi-channel social media strategies and measurement techniques to grow SVMHS digital presence.
Stays current on industry trends, competitors and overall marketing communications and social media best practices in order to recommend and execute new and effective programs, as well as internal process improvements.
Produce, proofread or edit other communications as assigned by the Chief Strategic Communications Officer.
Produce drafts that meet SVMHS standards and expectations for accuracy, clarity, writing style, and appropriate messaging.
Oversee promotional activities and community events. Activities may include physician lecture series, health promotion activities, community gatherings, sponsorship events, etc.
Ensure all communications at the hospital are consistent with the SVMHS brand in terms of look, tone, manner, and messaging.
Counsel Managers and staff as needed with brand compliance, helping them access appropriate resources.
Ensure all communications are consistent with regulatory and compliance guidelines, including adherence to federal and state HIPAA consent rules for release of PHI and authorization to interview/photograph/record.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of SVMHS’s business strategy; our health care delivery system; the health insurance industry; principles of internal and external communication; and communication around organizational change.
Manage and complete multiple assignments in short time frames.
Provide communication project management, development and execution in support of printed and electronic collateral.
Develops strong relationships with appropriate external constituencies relevant to the department in order to promote community relations and marketing programs, thus ensuring the Hospital is responsive to the community’s developing needs and maintains a favorable image in the eye of the community.

Education:Bachelor's degree required.
Licensure: Valid California driver's license required.
Experience: Five (5) years of experience preferred writing in a corporate, marketing, public relationsagency, orjournalism environment, including print and news releases. Three (3) years of experienceworking in a health care field or with health care clients preferred. Two (2) years of experience producingcontent for the web and/or social media. Bilingual English and Spanish is preferred.
Management Skills: Budgetary preparation, monitoring and control. Management and supervisory theories, principles, practices, techniques and methods.
Interpersonal Skills:Communicate effectively both orally and in writing to diverse groups and individuals. Work effectively with administration, employees and medical staff. Identify and analyze complex departmental issues. Make independent decisions and provide counsel and advice to administration, employees and medical staff. Exercise good judgement and tact in providing leadership, guidance and assistance.
