Carnegie Mellon University's department of Marketing & Communications team in the School of Computer Science (SCS) Dean's Office is searching for a Senior Communications Manager. In this role, you will serve as a resource to the team to assist with and/or serve as the frontline manager of a variety of projects on various communication platforms including content development, copywriting, web support including reviewing/editing content prior to publishing, video conceptualization and production, graphic design and production, photography, illustration and social media. This manager will be directly responsible for developing and implementing internal communication programs for the School while also supporting marketing and communication efforts for certain degrees and programs, DEI efforts, outreach and free CS curriculum programs, fundraising efforts and media relations.
Core responsibilities will include:
Writer, content developer - The ideal candidate is familiar with and capable of developing printed and digital marketing communications materials. This position may also be called upon to write news or magazine stories that range from human interest to research-focused, as needed.
Editor, publisher - This position requires a keen eye and attention to detail and must understand each targeted audience's needs and point of view, have a strong grasp of grammatical rules and norms, be comfortable with deadlines, and work quickly when necessary.
Producer - The person in this position may be called upon to compile, edit and distribute e-comms to key audiences. This requires an ability to succinctly summarize complex content, understand HTML, be familiar with third-party emailing programs such as MailChimp, manage mail lists and monitor analytics. This position may be called upon to generate web instances or pages for groups from scratch in the CMS and should have a basic understanding of good design principles, accessibility and user experience.
Collaborator - This position works with communications specialists in SCS departments, centers and labs; colleagues in the Dean's Office; the web support team; external vendors; and colleagues within the School and across campus including in the central University Communications & Marketing division.

Bachelor's degree in Communications required
At least 5 years Communications experience
Exemplary writing/design/visual communication skills are required
Writing in a range of styles including science/technical, human interest and fundraising solicitation is require
AP style proficiency is highly desired
