The Director of Marketing and Communications will develop and lead the strategic initiatives of Merit’s Marketing and Communications team. The Director will be responsible for translating Merit’s business strategy into an overall strategic vision of marketing for the organization, creating tactical plans, and executing these along with the Marketing team. This role is responsible for developing a comprehensive marketing and communication strategy that will increase credible brand recognition, community engagement and new market growth. Key components of the position will be to manage and supervise staff members and various consultative resources as applicable for the department.
This position reports to the Vice President for Community Engagement, and works collaboratively with Merit’s Executive team, Member Engagement, Technology Services team, and other various departments.
As a top candidate, you will be a highly organized self-starter, able to work under deadlines, juggle multiple assignments simultaneously, be proactive, and be willing to learn.
The position requires frequent and flexible travel (estimated at 15% of time) within the state of Michigan and out of state several times per year to attend conferences, promote Merit’s brand, and interface with Merit’s Membership and peer organizations.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, the work schedule will be determined by the supervisor and may change if necessary. There may be some occasional work required outside of the established schedule, which may include weekends and holidays. Typical work schedule is 8am – 5pm, Monday through Friday for most staff. Position is based out of Ann Arbor, MI. Hybrid work model is in place for this position (work partly done in the physical workplace and partly remote).
Travel is required.
