Salary Details:
Part Time, approximately 20-25 hours per week, depending on the fluxuations in the scope of our portfolio. This position offers a hybrid work schedule.
Weekly staff meetings and a minimum of 16 in-person office hours are required each week (as local health mandates allow). Other work may be completed remotely on a flexible schedule. Our office is located within a coworking space in Downtown L.A. Each staff member has a dedicated desk in a dedicated office space with lockable filing cabinets for personal storage.
Working on site for occasional evening and weekend programming will be required.
Occasional travel (2-3 times per year) for industry events and/or project premieres may also be required. Travel expenses, including per diem, are provided.
Hourly rates are objectively determined using a Pay Equity Matrix that considers years of applicable experience with relevant qualifications, education, and training. Employees are eligible for annual pay increases, and have access to professional development opportunities.
All employees have access to accrued sick time and paid time off.
After six months of employment, all employees (including part-time employees) are eligible for a retirement savings plan offered through Guideline, with an employer match of up to 4%.
LAPP does not currently offer health benefits.
Position Overview
The Marketing Specialist will join a small, collaborative, and entrepreneurial team in the management and development of programs and opportunities for generative artists in Los Angeles and beyond. The Specialist should be highly motivated and hard-working, passionate about the creative community of Los Angeles performance-makers, and should demonstrate superb communication and writing skills, a desire for continuous learning, and a willingness to take on large and small tasks alike.
The Marketing Specialist will report directly to the Executive Director, and will work closely and collaboratively with the organization’s regular staff and network artists. They will occasionally supervise interns and temporary project-specific staff. This is an exciting opportunity for an up-and-coming marketing professional interested in scaling/sustaining an organization.
The Marketing Specialist will play a critical role across the organization’s activities, including:
- Our annual Live Arts Exchange [LAX] Festival
- Our year-round Programs for Artists in Los Angeles
- Our nationally and internationally touring artist-led projects
Must be based in Los Angeles. Travel is occasionally required.
Responsibilities
MARKETING STRATEGY
- Develop and implement marketing plans for each of our core activities (Festival, Programs, Touring Projects)
- Maintain and update a social media calendar
- Conduct market research to better understand the multiple sides of our market activities (audiences, artists, presenting organizations, and donors)
- Establish goals and objectives in order to reach segmented stakeholders through appropriate marketing channels (digital and traditional)
- Build and maintain relationships with prospective organizational and corporate partners for the purpose of cross promotion and/or marketing sponsorships
- Promote brand awareness for the organization at a local and national level
CONTENT CREATION & MANAGEMENT
- Design, create, and post content for the organization’s social media channels
- Manage and create the organization’s email campaigns through MailChimp
- Create graphics for digital marketing campaigns using Canva, or other design tools
- Maintain the organization’s website, creating revised content for blog posts and updating pages using a WordPress back-end.
- Work collaboratively with the organization’s producing staff to create content and strategies for paid advertising campaigns to promote opportunities and events
- Work closely with the organization’s producing staff to create promotional materials for touring projects targeted toward arts presenting organizations and festivals
- Occasionally support the artists within our producing umbrella to update project-specific websites and/or manage project-specific social media channels
EVALUATION
- Monitor, evaluate, and report on the effectiveness of digital campaigns using key performance indicators including event attendance
- Adjust marketing strategies through data-based learning as well as qualitative observations
OTHER ADMINISTRATIVE
- Attend scheduled weekly staff and team meetings
- Supervise temporary staff and marketing interns
- Provide administrative support to the Executive Director and Director of Programs in all areas of marketing and communications, including the preparation of presentations, running reports, writing and reviewing written materials, and facilitating meeting preparation, etc;
- Contribute to the well-being of the organization with an “all hands on deck” attitude for projects, performances, and events.
- Background in marketing, journalism, communications, or arts administration, with a minimum of two years experience in a professional work environment
- Familiarity and appreciation for multidisciplinary contemporary performance aesthetics
- Proficiency in Google Office Suite (gmail, google sheets, drive, calendar, meet apps) and Adobe Creative Suite
- Demonstrates excellent writing skills and attention to detail
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Able to work effectively with multiple editors on a writing project, and demonstrates an ability to receive feedback and edits constructively
- Demonstrates a commitment to supporting artists and a creative community.
