Davidson College seeks a dynamic fellow to join the Betty and B. Frank Matthews II ’49 Center for Career Development (Matthews Center), a team committed to providing student-centered exploration, programs, and services to help students build their futures. The Matthews Center strives to be a national leader in career development by providing students hands-on support at a liberal arts college. This innovative team is dedicated to working collaboratively, with each other, the student body, partners across various campus offices and external stakeholders to provide the best-in-class support and direction for our students. The successful candidate will have a keen interest in career development and student learning, a strong commitment to the liberal arts, and demonstrated skills engaging stakeholders through highly effective communications and programming. The duration of the fellowship (1 or 2 years) is negotiable, based on the fellow’s career trajectory and performance.
The Role
Programming Responsibilities
-
Develops and supports multiple career-related events, workshops, and classroom presentations on topics related to career, graduate/professional school, and fellowship exploration; job and internship search strategies; and the career exploration process. Consults and partners with external and internal stakeholders and student groups to guide in planning and delivering related programming.

Supports other Matthews Center staff with identifying and recruiting students for Davidson-sponsored programs.
Marketing Responsibilities

Regularly collaborates with the Assistant Director of Marketing & Events to discuss social media needs, content creation, and what messages to communicate for the month's events, programs, etc.

Develops and contributes significant content to the Matthews Center social media channels.

Assists the Assistant Director of Marketing & Events with management of the following platforms: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, digital signage (in the Matthews Center + various campus locations with digital displays) and other platforms as needed for signature events + programs.

Drafts posts in Smartsheet/social media scheduler, and pending revisions and approval, posts content weekly.

Potentially drafts The Weekly Digest (in Mailchimp), bi-weekly Alumni Digest, targeted emails, and helps contribute to the creation/editing of resources and guides.
Individual & Team Responsibilities

Actively participates in Matthews Center Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion working groups.

Fosters relationships with a variety of student organizations and campus partners to increase engagement and collaboration efforts.

Demonstrates ongoing excellence in professional communication through e-mail, video conference, telephone, and face-to-face communication with all stakeholders.

Fully participates in office planning and team development activities to support the overall Matthews Center function, including regular staff meetings and 1-1 meetings with the supervisor. Serves as back-up for front-desk coverage when necessary.

Solicits and analyzes student feedback and evaluations and helps the Matthews Center team strategize to determine program offerings and innovation.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Bachelor's degree required

Davidson College graduates from the classes of 2021 & 2022 preferred

Demonstrated ability to engage the student body and successfully develop relationships to support their participation and success

Excellent relationship management and event planning skills

Professional oral, presentation, and written communication skills

Advanced technology skills, particularly knowledge of Google Workspace, MS Office Suite, and social media platforms; Handshake experience a plus

Able to fulfill some evening and weekend duties as assigned

Highly motivated self-starter, able to work independently with great levels of responsibility and accountability
