About the Opportunity: Under the direction of the Director of Marketing and Communication, the Marketing and Communications Specialist will be responsible for supporting marketing promotion and communications initiatives that promote the College's priorities to elevate the college brand, communicate our high-impact research endeavors, showcase our experiential learning model, engage with key stakeholders, and strengthen our sense of community, connection and collaboration. These efforts will include: brand compliance and support, tracking of key metrics, supporting the Digital Media Manager with social media initiatives and digital assets, development of promotional resources, management of a media and templates libraries and print portals, news story development and coordination, events support and promotion, management and support of the COS Intranet and Student Portals, and support to Institutes and Centers as needed. Position responsibilities will include graphic design, project coordination, writing and proofreading, administrative support, and more.
A motivated and strong level of support will elevate and expand marketing and communications programming for the College of Science, and will provide stronger and broader connections and collaborations among the college community.
The successful candidate will be an organized, enthusiastic, self-starter who will assist with and support execution of our team's marketing and communications plan to align with the mission, values and priorities of the College of Science. They will be able to support efforts across a variety of areas including PR, Digital Media, Internal Communications, Marketing, Graphic Design, Administrative Support, and more.
Creative Services: Develop content for and coordinate a host of creative and promotional inititatives including graphic design of collateral materials, various communications, event promotion; drafting news articles, managing student science writers, tracking news submissions to EA, and proofreading.
Support Services: Support communications and marketing in the college by assisting with brand compliance, coordinating the COS Intranet and Student Portals, managing templates and communication resources, and organizing, assisting with and supporting events and programs for the college and its academic departments, including managing the college calendar, and providing additional administrative support as needed.
Digital Media Support: Support the Digital Media Manager with digital assets, specifically, with developing social media posts related to events and news, maintaining COS partner websites, developing and managing a partner newsletter and other tactics as needed.
Business Development: Maintain and report key metric data on rankings, competitors and media. Develop relationships with professional organizations and seek marketing and communications opportunities.
Bachelor's Degree (in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or related field preferred)
1-2 years experience in a professional office environment, on internship or co-op, or relevant entry level experience preferred
Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal and presentation communication skills
Friendly, enthusiastic, and positive attitude
Strong organizational, problem-solving and time-management skills
Experience working with MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign), and Social Media platforms
Basic Graphic Design capabilities preferred
Salary Grade: 10
