The Director of Marketing plans, implements, executes, and assesses marketing strategies and tactics to promote the association's events, programs, products, and services. This includes writing marketing copy, analyzing marketing and promotional efforts, and collecting data to measure the results of planned marketing activities. In collaboration with internal teams and stakeholders, this role will ensure that strategies, messaging, and segmentation achieve attendee, revenue, and association goals.
Reporting to the Vice President of Marketing and Management Information Systems, the position will play an integral role in RILA’s customer engagement and revenue-generating strategies and implementation.
The ideal candidate is a marketing generalist who can develop strategic marketing plans, implement the tactics, report on the results, and juggle multiple projects and initiatives while maintaining a positive attitude and willingness to pivot as plans or circumstances change. Develops and implements marketing plans using appropriate tactics and messaging to promote the association’s conferences, events, and programs
Responsible for meeting and exceeding registration goals, attendee revenue; growing attendance at conferences and events
Works with the vice president to develop, manage, monitor, and report on budgets provided for event marketing programs
Works with the sales team to develop messaging and materials to drive exhibition and sponsorship sales
Content Development & Messaging
Develops and writes marketing copy for promotional emails, conference websites, social media, and other channels
Produces compelling and creative content to convert targeted audiences to paid attendees
Ensures marketing copy is on brand, on message, and effectively targets identified audience segments
Implementation & Tactics
Executes marketing plans, including the creation and delivery of emails, social media posts, digital advertising, and other identified channels
Manages the content, design, and development of websites for conferences and other events.
Employs appropriate audience segmentation strategies and messaging into marketing efforts
Event Branding & Design
Leads the development of conference brands and shapes the creation of the visual identity for conferences working with graphic designers (in-house and outsourced)
Articulates and applies conference branding within marketing efforts, ensures RILA brand is included within conference brands
Works with conference vendors to apply conference branding and visual design to on-site components (AV team for the general sessions, convention services, hotel, etc.)
Manage the day-to-day graphic design and production needs for the implementation of marketing tactics
Metrics and Analytics
Collects and analyzes data on the performance of marketing campaigns, tracking effectiveness and return on investment. Makes recommendations for improvements on future marketing efforts
Evaluates and manages paid advertising opportunities and makes recommendations on how to optimize ad performance
Reports on performance indicators to stakeholders; discusses outcomes and findings, and revises tactics as needed
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Multiple years of experience in marketing/communications, preferably in an association/not-for-profit setting
Demonstrated experience working on marketing campaigns with a variety of stakeholders and programs while utilizing strategic and creative thinking
Proven track record of increasing attendee participation and revenues at conferences and events
Experience with AMS tools (Fonteva/Salesforce or similar), Email Automation Tools (Informz), CMS (Kentico), Google Analytics, and Social Media Platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter)
Previous experience with adobe creative cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop); Google Analytics and SEO experience; and knowledge of HTML coding all helpful and preferred but not required
High-quality written and verbal communication skills
Attention to detail while producing high quality work while meeting deadlines and shifting priorities as plans develop
Positive attitude and thrives in a team environment
Flexibility and willingness to change and adapt with the fast-paced retail industry
Travel to annual conferences and related site visits, as needed
College degree not required, but candidate must meet position requirements listed above.
