Associate Director, Marketing Planning and Strategy (CA) - Brand Experiences and Partnerships

Role Ownership: As part of our team mission to build emotional connections with the brand, we have yet to truly tap into the opportunity of creating partnerships with other brands. This role would not only build the vision and strategy for this (and sell it in internally), but also identify and source new partners and build out/manage partnerships (would likely be able to hire 1 direct report in near future).
Reports to me, peers are Justin and Janelle – so the team will essentially have 3 functional leads that will all continue to work closely together– Janelle leading physical experiential + talent, Justin leading online experiences/content 2 commerce brand exp, and then someone leading brand partnerships which have yet to be tapped into!
Inclusive of centralizing and managing sponsorships and existing partnerships
We believe that brand partnerships should not only help change perception of Walmart, but also create value for customers. My favorite dream partnership that we’ve discussed is w/ Airbnb – where as part of their checkout flow, we could offer to fill your fridge for your vacation rental. So- alignment with a beloved brand (borrowing their equity) + service offering that actually provides value + supports internal business priority + gets people to see Walmart in a diff light and buy groceries down the road.
Brand partnership experience is a must – bonus if they have contacts at companies/brands we’d love to work with.
Experience building partnerships that were new/hadn’t been done before
Flexible thinker- able to move between creative and analytical thinking. A fan of brainstorming big ideas, someone who can confidently take risks. Toggle from big strategic thinking to in-the-weeds details and get things done.
Superb relationship builder with strong communication and leadership skills – this role is hyper cross functional and requires building bridges and influencing internally and externally – especially w/ senior levels.
Thrives in ambiguity, has an entrepreneurial spirit
Experience dealing with talent and other brands, and of course managing and leveraging creative and production agencies
