University of Puget Sound seeks a strategic and innovative leader to serve as Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Marketing
The Organization Established in 1888, the University of Puget Sound is a nationally ranked residential liberal arts college and one of just five independent colleges in the Pacific Northwest granted a charter by Phi Beta Kappa, the oldest and most prestigious academic honor society in the United States. The university draws 2,600 students from 46 states and 8 countries. The Location The university sits on 97 acres in Tacoma's North End neighborhood and is within minutes of Tacoma's urban center and Commencement Bay. With just over 200,000 residents, Tacoma is the third largest city in the state and is positioned 32 miles south of Seattle and 31 miles north of Olympia, the state capital. The Cascade Mountain Range is to the east and the Olympic Mountains to the west. Tacoma and the surrounding region offer a rich variety of art and cultural offerings and outdoor activities. The city and region support a variety of living options ranging from Craftsman and Victorian homes in historic neighborhoods to downtown lofts and condominiums to homes in suburban and rural settings.
The Position Reporting to the Vice President for Enrollment and partnering closely with the Admission and Student Financial Services teams, and Office of Communication, the individual leads the enrollment division's marketing and communications efforts. The AVP uses data-driven communications and marketing strategies that support the admission office's effort to recruit, select, yield, enroll, and retain an academically talented and diverse student body that meets institutional target goals; and manages a team of professionals in the marketing division of the Office of Enrollment.
Qualifications The successful individual will possess the skill, drive, and vision to lead a newly formed marketing team within the Office of Enrollment. Excellent oral, written, interpersonal and problem-solving skills are essential, as well as energy, a sense of diplomacy, an innovative spirit, an ability to identify and effect positive change when needed, and a sense of humor. The ability to articulate thoughts and communicate effectively with various audiences is critical. The individual must have a deep understanding and ability to execute effective digital marketing strategies.
They must demonstrate an ability to lead in a team environment. Proven supervisory effectiveness is expected; candidates must exhibit strong management and leadership skills and the ability to consistently and, with joy, lead a team with diverse backgrounds, experience and personalities.
Five to seven years of progressive marketing leadership experience, ideally within higher education, including several years' experience of staff management is desired. Must have a strong understanding of best practices in the field and ability to implement them. A bachelor's degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred.
A current understanding and command of technology tools and resources in enrollment is a must. Experience with PeopleSoft and Slate would be beneficial. The selected candidate should be confident enough to offer new and differing perspectives, as well as the willingness to implement fresh ideas.
