The Division of University Life at George Mason University is seeking interested and qualified candidates for the position of Web Design and Marketing Manager. Reporting to University Life's Director of Communications and Marketing, the Web Design and Marketing Manager will assess, oversee, and implement the graphic and user interface design of the University Life web presence (almost 60 sites), a process that will require the execution of all visual design stages from concept through final development; conceptualization of original website design ideas that bring simplicity, agility, and user friendliness to complex roadblocks leading to templates that can be implemented across multiple URLs; creation of wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows and site maps to communicate interaction and design ideas; presentation and defense of designs and key deliverables to peers and executive level stakeholders; and the establishment and promotion of design guidelines, best practices, and standards.
This position will also be assisting the Director of Communications and Marketing in managing divisional marketing initiatives; overseeing the production of divisional promotional materials and marketing campaigns; using market research and analysis to direct marketing strategy; and planning and reporting metrics and analytics of divisional marketing activities. The position will involve supervision of staff and students.
The Web Design and Marketing Manager position is a three-year restricted position, funded through February 2023.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
Assess the current state of the University Life (UL) web presence (over 60 sites) for visual design, end-user experiences, and effectiveness the assessment will lead to a relaunch and sunsetting of sites that are not relevant or in use;
Implement a refresh of all UL Web presence using expertise, design skills and information gathered from stakeholders to inform the design process;
Templatize the UL divisional and unit websites, drawing from experience and expertise to analyze the best platform to use, leading to a flexible, compliant, dynamic, agile and user-friendly end product;
Assess the current landscape and suggest guidelines, implement best practices, and establish appropriate standards for web site creation and development;
Develop and implement a training program that allows selected staff to keep website content up to date;
Oversee the production of divisional promotional materials and marketing campaigns;
Use market research and analysis to direct marketing strategy and planning;
Report metrics and analytics of divisional marketing activities;
Supervision of staff and students.
Significant demonstrated (7+ years preferred) professional (paid) web design experience;
Bachelor's in Graphic Design, Marketing or related technology field, or equivalent combination of education and experience;
Proficiency with CSS and related design tools;
Proven graphic design experience including proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud Suite;
Multimedia design experience, including animation and editing for video and audio;
Knowledge of WordPress and Drupal standards and functionality;
Stay current with the latest in web design and development trends;
Experience managing multiple projects and leading a team of full time, part time and freelance employees;
Extensive experience with the principles and practices of marketing and communication including graphic design expertise;
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Experience with a shared or centralized in-house marketing service;
Experience in brand management;
Master's in Graphic Design, Marketing or related technology field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Salary: Salary range – 62,000 – 70,000, commensurate with experience
