UC Berkeley's College of Engineering seeks an energetic and collaborative Writer and Marketing Specialist to promote faculty research and the objectives and priorities of the department. This individual will develop and maintain polished, engaging content for marketing materials that highlight the people and activities at the College of Engineering for key constituencies. Materials include handouts, brochures, slide decks and online articles, as well as audio and visual communication platforms.
Generate dynamic and succinct faculty profiles of varying lengths.
Work with researchers to translate complex technical/scientific work into lively, accurate content for a general audience. These may be short briefs as well as longer reports.
Research, gather and report on facts, rankings and statistics that provide compelling evidence of the college's innovation and impact. Experience with infographics and visual communications is a plus.
Tailors content to different audiences and publication platforms, including brochures, slide presentations, social media channels, Berkeley Engineering's website and print magazine.
Keeps current with best practices in marketing communications.
Creates, develops, and implements comprehensive long- and short-term strategic communications plans.
Proofread, fact check, editing and additional duties, including some administrative tasks
This is a Part-time (50%), Career position
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
4-6 years' experience as a public relations or media relations professional, editor or equivalent experience/training
Exceptional writing, editing, researching, and interviewing skills
High attentiveness to detail and accuracy
Proven ability to quickly and accurately translate complex, technical research into compelling content for a general audience
Excellent news judgment and knowledge of which platforms would be more appropriate for reaching specific audiences
Strong organizational and analytical skills; ability to juggle multiple tasks and to work well under tight deadlines
Strong interpersonal skills and political acumen
Proficient in software applications and other technology required for written, digital, social media, and visual communications.
Knowledge of college and campus protocols and channels for communication internally and externally
Knowledge of AP style.
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Power Point, Word and Excel.
A strong and nuanced knowledge of current affairs, developments in technology, and issues in higher education
Knowledge of content management systems (Drupal and/or WordPress) and relevant tools used for web site production.
Familiarity with Adobe InDesign.

The hourly salary range designated for this position: $67,500 - $98,900 (Full-time equivalent); however, starting salary will be commensurate with experience.
This position is 50% Full-Time Equivalent.
