The Director of Marketing serves as the primary steward of the university’s brand, elevating and enhancing Elon's national reputation and visibility by planning, directing and coordinating advertising and marketing activities of the university. The Director of Marketing creates innovative marketing strategies that bolster awareness, respect and loyalty among all university constituencies and support successful admissions recruitment and fundraising operations.
Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university with a degree in communications, marketing or related field.
Special Skills Or Experience:
Prefer candidates with considerable experience in online and social media marketing and advertising. Strong writing and visual communications skills. Extensive knowledge of marketing principles and practices and brand management along with a demonstrated track record of success and performance. A thorough understanding of communications production and deployment, including visual design, print production, online and social media platforms, video and photography. Excellent interpersonal, presentation and oral communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships on behalf of the university.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Director of Marketing provides leadership and works in close partnership with divisions, departments, offices and schools to determine marketing goals, create effective strategies, implement tactics and measure success. The Director is the university's primary contact with external agencies and consultants engaged by the university for assistance in marketing initiatives.
Primary responsibilities include the following:
Chair a standing university marketing committee, holding regular meetings with key stakeholders who communicate with external audiences.
Coordinate advertising and marketing efforts in partnership with the Office of Admissions (undergraduate and graduate), Office of the President, Athletics, Cultural Programs, University Advancement (Alumni Relations and Development) and School of Law.
Manage all Elon advertising placements, including print, online, broadcast and outdoor advertising, implementing a cost-effective strategy that reaches target populations.
Pursue an integrated marketing approach by working closely with University Communications staff members who manage media relations, social media, print and Web publications.
Social Media – Partner with social media managers across the university to coordinate and enhance social media content, build a consistent brand voice and grow audience reach and engagement.
Develop and implement innovative campaigns that generate and support increases in admissions populations throughout the recruitment funnel.
Collaborate with University Advancement to conceive and implement effective campaigns to support successful alumni engagement, annual giving and major gift activities.
Serve as a member of creative teams that conceive and create publications and other communications.
Work as a member of Elon teams that plan and implement major campus events, such as convocations, dedications and other initiatives that have strong interest to external audiences.
Cultivate relationships with influential individuals, bringing them to Elon to experience the campus and interact with key administrators, faculty and students.
Ensure the high quality and consistent use of the university's visual identity, working with University Communications designers, communications staff members in units of the university and Business/Finance/Technology division staff members who design and maintain the campus environment.
Remain informed about Elon's market position in relation to competitor institutions, spotting trends and developments that may impact the university's success.
Plan, direct and coordinate periodic surveys that gauge Elon's reputation among prospective students, alumni, parents, employers, business, government and foundation leaders and other important external constituencies.
Strong writing and visual and oral communications skills. Extensive knowledge of marketing principles and practices, especially on digital platforms. Knowledge of media analytics tools to measure advertising performance and drive strategic decisions.
