Associate Director of Communications, Research News & Strategic Academic Initiatives - Marketing and Communications-2011802

Our central Marketing and Communications division is searching for an Associate Director of Research News and Strategic Academic Initiatives. In this role, you will serve as a technical writer/editor around the research priorities of the Neuroscience Institute and Simon Initiative. You will have the primary responsibility for collecting and articulating the research-related news that capture and bring alive this remarkable university, coordinating the channels through which we tell those stories, and ensuring execution at the highest level.
Your core responsibilities will include:
Develop content and communications materials in consultation with the institutes, (Neuroscience Institute), initiatives (Simon Initiative) and colleges (Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences and Mellon College of Science) to raise the visibility of the Carnegie Mellon Research Enterprise, Dietrich College of the Humanities, and the Mellon College of Science;
Create and promote research news through proper channel and platforms;
Assist with website content and updates;
Develop and maintain relationships with faculty and staff within prioritized initiatives; and
Maintain positive relationships with unit/research communicators;
Coordinate and collaborate with the senior director of news and media relations on the creative use of social media, media relations and storytelling;
Newsroom and campaign style planning to ensure long-term success of message penetration;
Work closely with Associate Vice President of Content and Communications and senior staff to craft key communications planning and the most effective communications team, and to ensure consistent messaging across channels; and
Collaborate across the university with college and school communicators to ensure research is positioned correctly and communications are done effectively and efficiently.

You should demonstrate:
Deep understanding of content and storytelling for specific/segmented audiences;
Science, research and technology writing experience and the ability to make complex material easily digestible to a variety of audiences;
Strong writer and editor/ability to write for different audiences utilizing different forms of storytelling;
Superior news judgement;
Multimedia capabilities (photography, video, web) a plus;
Work independently and effectively, and manage multiple projects at a time in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment;
And a high level of integrity, credibility, respect and team collaboration
You should be able to work outside of normal business hours, to include weekends, as needed.
Bachelor's degree in business, communications, journalism, science, or relevant field required; Master's preferred.
Minimum five years as a leader in multi-channel content creation required; education may be considered in lieu of experience.
Science or technical writing experience highly desired.
