Full Time; Contract Starting Salary Range: $15.00-$23.95/hourly.Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. UCSC strives to embrace diversity in all its forms; it strives to be an inclusive community that fosters an open, enlightened & productive environment.
University Relations supports the teaching, research, and public service of UC Santa Cruz by making and keeping deep, heartfelt connections. Building enduring relationships among students, alumni, faculty, donors, and others is the lifeblood of our work and helps to make UC Santa Cruz a thriving community of knowledge, inquiry, public service, and social mobility.
We are a welcoming group of ambitious and creative professionals pursuing our mission in support of the university's overarching purpose. We take our work seriously because we care - but we don't take ourselves too seriously! The University Relations culture is lively and dynamic; we value collaboration; and our staff are resourceful, enthusiastic, and hard-working.
The division is a fun, friendly, and open place, and staff are supportive of and positive about one another's goals and aspirations. We often jump in to help where needed, rolling up our sleeves to get the job done. We dare to approach challenges as opportunities. Our custom is to seek creative ways to overcome obstacles, at times with limited resources, while keeping our eye on the objective: helping students achieve their goals, providing crucial public service, and advancing life-changing research and discovery.
Under the general supervision of the alumni and development communications director, the Email Marketing Coordinator's primary focus is building, editing, and scheduling HTML email communications and coordinating any online surveys being conducted by University Relations or other divisions. The email marketing coordinator also works collaboratively with the team on broad-based strategies to attract new supporters to the campus and maintain and nurture current donors.
This is a customer-focused position that tracks and analyzes email metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of our email efforts (including click-through rates, open rates, email conversion rates, and more). This position also proposes ideas for new or better types of communications based on metrics patterns or observed successes in the industry.
The position works with colleagues from across the university, which requires a high level of customer service skills, understanding of general operations, and imperturbability. Such collaboration includes training campus communicators to build their HTML emails and assisting them with their sends (newsletters, event invitations and save-the-dates, gift solicitations, surveys, thank you messages, etc.), or working with colleagues to pull mailing lists from the university database for emails, as well as managing the scheduling and calendaring of diverse and increasing email communications and surveys.
For certain initiatives, there can be a large volume of highly detailed mass emails designed specifically for various audiences. Workload can be heavy during these times, and these projects can require great attention to detail, a high level of flexibility, and a team-player work ethic. Applicants should be able to handle the ebb and flow of various email marketing initiatives throughout the year with equanimity.
The university's email communications are designed to further key campus goals and divisional strategies. Some are intended as engagement or news communication vehicles, while others are designed to prompt specific actions, e.g., RSVP for an event, provide anecdotal or other feedback, or donate to UC Santa Cruz.
Applicants should have a solid background in designing, coding, and testing HTML email; strong customer service skills; experience with graphic editing software; experience with Adobe Creative Suite or similar editing programs; experience managing multiple campaigns in email distribution platforms; superior attention to detail; excellent communication skills including strong verbal, writing, and editing skills; and experience improving efficiencies.
