Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Assistant Director Public Relations Marketing Communications for the School of Social Work (SSW). This position reports to the Dean and has oversight of all internal and external aspects of communications and messaging for SSW in order to build awareness and knowledge of the work and accomplishments of the School, the Institute for Families, and the school's five Centers through collaboration with faculty and staff with a goal of improving the school's national rank.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Plans and directs SSW-wide communication and public relations strategy and implementation on all three campuses (Newark, New Brunswick and Camden) as well as several Intensive Weekend sites throughout the state.
Produces promotional messages, marketing collateral, and works with media in traditional and emerging formats for external constituents statewide, nationally and internationally.
Manages the school's website and all social media tools with an eye to innovation.
Collaborates with the Dean, Program Directors, faculty and staff on educational product design and development to identify potential audiences for new products, or underrepresented and emerging audiences for current products.
Develops and delivers tutorial for faculty and staff to ensure self-promotion of scholarly work product.
Works closely with the Development Office to cultivate alumni and donors and assists in stewarding current donors of $10,000+.
Collaborates with interns and vendors to create, produce and disseminate SSW written communications including, but not limited to, bi-annual newsletters, monthly eNews, regular faculty news, and special event promotion.
Represents the school at events, receptions, and conferences.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires a bachelor's degree preferably in marketing, communication, business, media production and design, or related discipline; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
A minimum of five years of related experience which includes serving and providing project management, vendor management, and budget management.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Related experience in editing and marketing.
Must have cross-functional team collaboration experience in communications and public relations including: working with multimedia platforms and comfort with social media management.
Must have strong proficiency with website analytics and the ability to measure success of marketing initiatives.
Must have be ability to proactively assess and spot new marketing opportunities.
Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, managerial and creative problem-solving skills and comfort with emerging technology.
As the internal and external voice of the School of Social Work, the successful candidate must have experience with speech writing, and be able to prepare faculty experts to publicly respond to current issues.
Existing positive media relationships are required.
Must have proficiency with typical office desktop hardware and software; such as cloud computing solutions for customer relationship management, social media campaign management, project management, graphic design and multimedia design.
Must be able to manage long-term strategic goals.
A graduate degree and/or 10 years of progressive experience are strongly preferred.
Experience with International communications.
Experience in Higher Education environment.
Including but not limited to: Various Social Media and Website platforms.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
This position requires occasional night and weekend duties depending on the need for coverage at School of Social Work sponsored programs and events, such as receptions for Alumni, Faculty, Students, etc.
