The Director of Marketing and Communications in Northeastern University's College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH) leads the development and implementation of a comprehensive strategic marketing and communication plan to strengthen the visibility and reputation of the college in the Experiential Liberal Arts, and to make the college's educational programs visible to prospective learners.
Working closely with the dean, associate deans, department heads, and marketing staff in the Lifelong Learning Network and central Marketing and Communication, the Director of Marketing and Communications develops strategic marketing plans for the college; develops marketing and recruitment plans in collaboration with admissions teams; and manages the implementation of branding/identity and marketing projects, including collateral generation.
The Director will establish a reputation management campaign for CSSH to enhance student and faculty recruitment. She/he will oversee the development of marketing collateral for all programs (Undergraduate, Masters, and PhD as well as graduate certificate and non-degree programs) as well as work in conjunction with Northeastern's Lifelong Learning Network on developing and executing marketing strategies for CSSH's professional Masters programs. The Director will work to enhance the reputation of the college's education, research and external engagement efforts. She/he will create a strategic plan for revising the structure and content of the CSSH websites. S/he will plan, execute, and measure the success of web and other marketing initiatives for CSSH, including but not limited to website performance, search engine optimization, advertising and social media campaigns and valuation of service. The Director will initiate new processes for data collection that will guide the Dean's Office with regard to necessary marketing and communication techniques to enhance CSSH's reputation and recruitment efforts.
The director will build and manage a team of internal and external communications and marketing professionals and will oversee and participate in content generation including writing, editing and proofreading.
Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree in Marketing, Public Relations or related field strongly preferred. Knowledge of evolving marketing and data analytic systems, practices, tools, and platforms required. Minimum of four years related work experience preferred in marketing and communications, preferably in a competitive higher education, non-profit, or agency setting, including experience pitching stories and publicizing news and events.
Experience in developing and executing effective marketing strategies is critical. Also must have experience developing print and electronic web based marketing collateral and content for both broad and targeted audiences. Experience managing and negotiating vendor and agency relationships.
A self-motivated, detail-oriented professional who possesses the ability to think strategically and interact professionally to develop relationships with a diverse range of constituencies. Excellent organizational skills, strong customer service orientation, and ability to work effectively in an independent and interdependent setting. Must be able to handle multiple projects under tight deadlines and to be able to work well in a complex organization.
