We are seeking a Manager to support the launch the new Carnegie Mellon University David and Susan Coulter Welcome Center, opening in fall, 2018, in the first building on the Tepper Quadrangle that also houses the Tepper School of Business. This is an exciting opportunity if you thrive in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will primarily serve as the first contact with the public and build a welcoming environment for all audiences of visitors; in collaboration with the Undergraduate Admission team, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of the welcome center.
Core responsibilities will include:
Greet visitors, answer questions and provide directions. Share stories and information about CMU. Participate in ongoing training to continually learn and refine the messaging and narrative about CMU.
Hire, train, schedule and evaluate the student ambassadors.
Oversee the appearance, functionality and operation of technology within the center. Operate and input changes into the interactive experience's content management system (CMS). Schedule group visits, group tours, and coordinate schedule for any faculty and student demonstrations.
Work in partnership with the information desk and operations staff in the Tepper Quadrangle building and receptionist staff in Undergraduate Admission to help manage visitors in the building.
Serve as a vital part of CMU's visitor experience initiative. Serve as member of the visitor experience committee. Work collaboratively with Director, Visitor Experience and Strategic Communications Manager to continually develop visitors' experiences.
You should demonstrate:
Understanding of visitor engagement strategies and customer service,
Ability to manage and develop the role of student employees,
Capability to work independently and handle multiple demands in a fast-paced environment,
Excellent written and oral communication skills, social skills, reasoning and problem solving, and
Strong organizational skills and a team-orientation.

This is a one year, fixed term appointment and operational need will be re-assessed for possible permanent extension. Core operating hours are 8:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday; however, you should be able and willing to work occasional evenings and weekends for special events.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in marketing, communications, business, higher education administration or other related field required
Minimum three years of marketing, admissions, student affairs or administrative management experience required; experience in higher education and supervising students highly desired
Experience with general office technology and databases
Demonstrated cultural competence and ability to work with diverse audiences
PA Act 153 background clearance required
