The primary responsibility of the Senior Director of Marketing & Business Development is to develop, direct and execute all facets of the CRSP Strategic Marketing Plan through the effective leadership of the Marketing & Business Development function. The Senior Director acts as Chief Marketing and Business Development Officer for the organization and is responsible for budgetary development in areas of accountability, as well as management of all sales and marketing personnel to achieve and surpass Strategic Marketing Plan goals and objectives. The Senior Director of Marketing & Business Development works closely with CRSP senior leadership and is responsible for product brand images, pricing and new business development. The Senior Director of Marketing & Business Development is responsible for new business development with a focus on CRSP Indexes. The Senior Director of Marketing & Business Development collaborates with other members of the CRSP senior management team and Booth, ensuring the effective and orderly operation of the organization. This role recognizes that the line between Marketing and Business Development coupled with developing product direction recommendations is blurred, requiring partnering with other leaders, particularly in an organization like CRSP.
Responsible for the development, implementation, and execution of the CRSP Strategic Marketing Plan. This plan covers marketing research data to academic institutions and commercial/governmental research departments, investible index data to fund managers and related broker/dealers, and related researchers and consultants interested in both. Success requires identifying opportunities and then presenting our data products to the prospective client in a manner that they will understand.
Collaborates with Client Services, Analytics, Communications, Project Management and senior management to ensure that the Strategic Marketing Plan is coordinated with product/project development plans and feedback developed from current and prospective subscribers.In this process collaborates with appropriate areas throughout CRSP on problem resolution, developing responses to subscriber questions, and possible product modifications.
In addition to representing CRSP at conferences,be sufficiently knowledgeable and capable of participating in panel discussions with index industry experts from competitive/peer organizations if required.
Formulates and manages the marketing function infrastructure in support of the Strategic Marketing Plan. Partners with the Senior Director of Client Services in acting as key liaison between customers (academic, governmental/not for profit, and commercial), and CRSP Senior Management to facilitate product development strategies.
Evaluates current and potential markets for development opportunities through management, organization and analysis of both academic and commercial client data.
Responsible for budgeting for the entire marketing function, including compensation costs and sales/marketing expenses in order to meet Strategic Marketing Plan goals each year.
Structures department roles and resources in support of the Strategic Marketing Plan, ensuring alignment with CRSP goals and business development expectations.
Coordinates execution of Strategic Marketing Plan with CRSP leadership as well as other department managers, ensuring continuing alignment with CRSP resources, customer needs (both academic and commercial) and their capabilities.
Manages departmental personnel efficiently and effectively, properly allocating Staff and resources for each assignment while ensuring annual goals are met and surpassed.
Responsible for maintaining and constantly improving CRSPâ™s competitive position, ensuring that proper product mix and pricing strategies result in maximum sales volume with minimum sales and marketing expense.
Directs development of evaluative criteria for use in product mix, cost and pricing decisions.
Directs staff efforts in development of new target markets, ensuring sales/marketing strategies, campaigns (e.g., presentations, advertising, email, conferences) and contact follow-up occur in a timely and cost-effective basis.
Engages with Senior Director of Client Services\ CRSP Research Product Owner to understand the customer support function and utilize information from subscriber issues, product wishlists and concerns for understanding risks and opportunities.
Ensures CRSP âœBrand Identityâ expansion through selected advertising, trade-show, and marketing campaigns targeted by Strategic Marketing Plan.Coordinates same with Booth marketing/identity and Communications personnel.
Works with Client Relationship and sales managers to field new leads and opportunities that come in through normal operating channels, as well as proactively pursues new business development opportunities with prospective clients.Actively engages in contract negotiation when request exceeds standard alternate provisions, and coordinates same with Manager of Licensing & with COO.
Collaborates with Senior Director of Client Services in establishing conference attendance and exhibition schedule, partner and client meetings.

Education, Experience and Certifications
Masterâ™s degree required, concentration in finance strongly preferred
Cross specialization or additional coursework in Marketing or Business Development highly preferred.
A minimum ten years of progressive successful experience in marketing, new business development, and strategic planning required.
Supervisory experience strongly preferred.
Technical Knowledge or Skills:
Familiarity with financial data, with knowledge of the practioner index landscape is required.
Ability to effectively direct areas of responsibility by motivating, training and developing a diverse group of staff members to provide desired strategic and operational outcomes within the allocated resources required.
Ability to assess current and potential markets for development opportunities through management, organization and analysis of both academic and commercial client data required.
Ability to understand impact of CRSP decision-making process on other organizational units within the University of Chicago and can anticipate and carryout necessary communications with these units required.
Ability to provide input to CRSP customer service activities of Client Services through close interaction with customer support staff required.
Ability to recognize and address product issues/opportunities promptly and effectively through the utilization of expert sales, marketing and customer service skills required.
