This position is responsible for the overall department marketing, public relations, and communications initiatives. Plan, budget, coordinate, manage, schedule, and implement all of the marketing and communications efforts including e-mail marketing, social media, advertising and direct mail. Responsible for strategy, implementation, tracking and assessment of marketing and communications activities, working closely with other staff. Responsible for direct supervision of all students in Marketing and House Management. Responsible for ensuring smooth functioning of all mainstage and donor events including staffing and working events acting as House Manager. Work closely with production team.
Marketing, Public Relations, and Communications Management
Develop comprehensive marketing strategies, promotional plans, and budgets, utilizing electronic, online and printed materials. Ensure accurate, effective, consistent, and timely communications with all relevant constituencies.
Develop and manage market research and analysis of TAD audiences with intention maintain and expand these audiences.
Manage art direction and graphics to present a clean, progressive, and professional image in both printed and online materials for a unified TAD brand.
Manage the creation and strategy surrounding a wide variety of print materials (publications, newsletters, web guides, flyers, invitations, calendars, posters, etc.) for the purpose of increasing awareness of Theatre and Dance resources, programs, and events to internal and external audiences.
Copywriter for the department including but not limited to the writing of press releases, promotional copy, newsletter material, and group sales and sponsorship pitches.
Oversee department website, working with graphic designer on updating navigation and content on a regular basis.
Create, monitor, forecast, and reconcile annual marketing and communications budget.
Cultivate local, regional and statewide media and community relations.
Handle media activities including writing news releases, developing relationships with local media outlets, responding to media inquiries and arranging interviews.
Collaborate with development staff in the creation of fundraising materials, recognition of sponsor partners, and promotion of donor cultivation events
Create new and nurture ongoing relationships with other campus departments and university campuses to result in higher visibility for UMTAD, cross-curricular events, and increased ticket distribution to the university community.
Actively engage with CLA Donor Relations
Supervision and Management Experience
Supervise, schedule, hire, train, orient all student house managers and marketing assistants including Practicum Students. Oversee student staff in the implementation of marketing plans. Mentor, train, and evaluate practicum students in collaboration with instructor.
Theatre and Dance Events House Manager
Attend all mainstage and donor events acting as House Manager to ensure the smooth operation of the house during the run of the show. Welcome the public to the theatre and oversee their safety and well-being before, during, and immediately after the show. Answer questions, listen to patrons' compliments and concerns, and make audience members feel welcome. Work with all student house managers and ushers, create and coordinate schedules, manage all events.
BA/BS degree in communications, journalism, marketing, art or related field plus two years professional experience or 6 years combined equivalent education and experience.
Experience with media and donor relations.
Demonstrated and proven experience with Social Media such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
Demonstrated supervisory experience.
Excellent computer skills including MS Office suite, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, GoogleCal, GoogleDrive, website updates, listservs
Must have calendaring experience
Must have budgeting experience
Must be able to work nights and weekends as event schedule dictates
Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds
Professional photography experience
Theatre house management experience
Strong portfolio of successful projects and/or publications from previous professional experiences.
Excellent written skills to include experience writing, positioning, and editing copy for both internal and external communications
